Say Hello to a Corn SnakeAimed at primary-school-aged youngsters and private novice groups. The "Say Hello" session is primarily a visual display, with some limited snake handling by participants. This session offers an opportunity to experience corn snakes up-close and to find out a little about how they live, their home, what they eat and drink, how small the hatchlings are and how big they grow, followed by a question-and-answer session. Duration: 20-30 minutes.
The Life of a Corn SnakeFor primary and early secondary school youngsters and interest groups. The "Life of a Corn Snake" is primarily for early school scientific education and general knowledge, offering a hands-on experience of the snakes, along with a talk through their life cycle, habitat, feeding patterns and a little about their evolution over the past 80 million years. Duration: 45-60 minutes.
Corn Snake GeneticsFor secondary school science students. The "Corn Snake Genetics" session introduces the concept of genetic variation illustrated with live examples of variant corn snake morphs, includes some online research and some simple examples of genetic calculations that enable us to determine the outcome of a pairing from known morphs. Duration: 45-60 minutes.
Dispel My Fear of SnakesFor youngsters and adults with an irrational fear of snakes. This session is aimed at those who wish to rationalise and overcome their fear of snakes, including parents who would rather not pass on an irrational fear to their kids. Ophidiophobia, as a fear of snakes is called, is often based on fictional or mythical tales or imagery such as childhood stories and scary films. In many cases, rationalising the fear by experiencing the reality can help to dispel the irrational fear. We start by exploring the source of your fear and gently work our way towards handling placid corn snakes (always optional) with gentle coaching and support. If your fear is greater than your enthusiasm, there are more powerful techniques that can be used to enable you to overcome your ophidiophobia. Duration: 60-90 minutes (approximately). This session is limited to six participants.
